Luzerne had a sawmill and gristmill powered by a dam on Big Creek. Logs were sent down this creek to the Au Sable River. The Au Sable provided the only means of transportation until the railroad came in the 1890's. Today Oscoda County is sparsely populated but offers great recreation and resorts. |
