In 1863, Lorenzo Conklin came to this area. Most people came to Lake county because of the logging. These logs were shipped down the Pine, Little Manistee, and Pere Marquette Rivers to Ludington and Manistee. Chase was the first community. As the lumber industry dwindled so did the population. With the loss of lumbering agriculture and tourism became important. |
