The Grand River is where the settlers came to set up a fur trading center. A trading post was built in 1821 at what is now known as Ada. Grand River allowed Grand Rapids to have water power and ease of manufacturing. After the Civil War, sawmills were erected along the river. The furniture industry was big in Grand Rapids. The Gerald R Ford Museum is in this city. |
