The county was named after Major Henry Gladwin. Wagarville was the county's booming lumber town in the 1890's. Meredith had many saloons and bordellos to entertain the lumberjacks. Gladwin County's economy today includes auto parts manufacturing, thermoform, RV manufacturing, wood products, construction and agriculture as well as tourism. Waterways, with several dams on the Tittabawassee, Sugar, Tobacco and Cedar rivers creating opportunities for boating, fishing, canoeing and sightseeing. |
