Branch County is one of Michigan's smallest counties. The first white settlement was in 1828 in Bronson. Even though other counties were growing, Branch county was slow. It was not easy to get to with the poor transportation available. Also settlers were intimidated by the remaining Indians. With the building of Chicago Road (now US-12)growth of the area improved. In 1847 Union City Iron Company was built. Today there is still farming. |
